How to Borrow Books from Other Libraries for Free

Inter-Library-Loans

As a student, staff, or faculty, you can borrow most any book from Iowa or global libraries for free.

At the Estherville campus, please contact:

Janet Kirchner at 712-362-8361 or jkirchner@iowalakes.edu

At the Emmetsburg campus, please contact:

Candace, Marilyn, or Anesa at 712-852-5317 or ilcceb@iowalakes.edu

What Can I Borrow?

You can borrow articles and books from other institutions.

How much does it cost?

It is completely FREE.

How long does it take to receive my Inter-Library Loan?

An Article will arrive more quickly than books, and could arrive in a day or two. These will be emailed to you.

Books will take a couple of weeks or more, depending on how far the book must travel to reach us. The library will contact you when it arrives.

How long can I keep the materials?

Articles are not due back. Books due dates are set by the lending library.

Can I renew these books?

Possibly, but it is determined by the lending library. Be sure to call the library well in advanced of the due date. Waiting until the final day will likely result in the lending library denying your request.

Are there limits?

No, you can borrow any number of books. However, you may be limited to what is available from other libraries. Not all books will be available.

Can I borrow books and articles if I am on Spencer, Algona, Spirit Lake, or Online?

Yes. Articles will work exactly as they do for the other campuses (they will be emailed to you). Books can be sent to the Success Center of your campus or the one closest to you. You are welcome to also visit both Emmetsburg and Estherville Campus Libraries. If you need to make other arrangements, please call or email either library campus.
