PDF Accessibility

PDFs can be made and checked Accessible using Adobe Acrobat. The process can take just a minute or so if it goes well. But the process can also be tricky (if you have many elements such as tables, screenshots, and decorative images), so see the links below if you run into any trouble.

Create and verify PDF accessibility (Acrobat Pro)
The Make Accessible action walks you through the steps required to make a PDF accessible. It prompts to address accessibility issues, such as a missing document description or title. It looks for common elements that need further action, such as scanned text, form fields, tables, and images. You can run this action on all PDFs except dynamic forms (XFA documents) or portfolios.
Overview of Portable Document Format (PDF)
Accessibility features in Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC fall into two broad categories: features that make the reading of PDF documents more accessible, and features that help create accessible PDF documents. To create accessible PDF documents, you must use Acrobat Pro.
