  • Be present in class (physically and mentally)
  • Be prepared for class
  • Take notes, such as: 
    • Paper notes (studies show this is the best for strengthening memory)
    • Note cards (great for using as self-quiz)
    • Cornell Note-Taking System (best for digesting the information)
    • Notes on your Smartphone (great for quick notes at events, meetings, or other locations where you cannot take along a laptop or notebook)
    • Laptop or Surface (great for note-taking that combines information that presents URL links, organizations and institutional websites, and so forth)
  • Review notes daily or at least several times per week
  • "Teach" someone else what you learned: your roommate, your little sister, or your dog.
  • Self-quiz (see some options below)
  • Ask for help:
    • Ask your professor
    • Ask other professors
    • Visit the Success Center (one on every campus)
    • Ask the professional tutor (if available)
    • Find a private tutor (typically cost $10-$20 per hour)
